4. Emergency Response Team (ERT) shall be aware of their responsibilities in times of accident or emergency at ADHS. 5. All employees shall be aware of the risks associated with their role and daily activities. In case of an emergency they should be aware of how to attract attention and evacuate safely to the designated assembly points. 2.1. GENERAL 1. In the event of a fire or emergency that requires evacuation the fire alarm will be activated to alert all members of the facility. 2. Upon hearing the fire alarm staff, students and visitor will leave the building by the shortest and fastest route ( designated routes) to the designated assembly point. 3. Floor plans and exit routes have been displayed in every room and at key points on the corridors. There are green sign boards and arrows marked on the wall leading to the assembly point. 4. Location of assembly point – Refer appendix 1 2.2 ACADEMIC STAFF: 1. During an evacuation, teachers should stop class activity and escort the class immediately to the evacuation point. 2. Teachers should always lead the class out of the building and assemble in the designated area. All personal belongings must be left behind. 3. Teacher ensures that the class is evacuated and shuts the door behind her/him with the Orange card displayed on the door. The Red card is carried to the assembly point. 4. Fire Wardens must ensure all doors are securely shut in the event of any evacuation. Rooms without Orange cards on the outside must be checked. 5. Registrar to carry attendance records and absentee lists to the evacuation point. 6. Form Tutors should take a head count and match with the numbers present as per Registrar’s attendance sheet. They report to HOYs. Form Tutors raise the Red card in case additional support is needed (i.e.: missing individual or injured individual). In case all student numbers tally, then Form Tutor asks the class to sit down. The HOYs confirm atendance numbers of students with the Registrar. The First Aid team confirms atendance of the injured/sick student with the Class Teacher/HOY. Registrar confirms student’s atendance with Principal. The KSHs/HOD take the role of an absent HOY. The HOD confirm Subject teacher numbers with Secretary. The Senior Support Services confirms Admin atendance with the Secretary Asst. Transport Services and Central Support Services confirms support staff atendance with the Secretary. The Secretary confirms all the atendance with the Principal. 2.3 STAFF ABSENCES: Should any member of staff be absent, their duties in evacuating the children in their care from the building will be undertaken by the teacher or adult in charge of the class. CLEANING STAFF LOCATED NEXT TO TOILETS OR UNUSED ROOMS MUST CHECK THEM BEFORE LEAVING THE BUILDING.
