School academic staff are responsible for ensuring the policy and procedures are followed in school, and for ensuring that they provide a variety of opportunities for students to maximize their achievements in and out of the classroom. They plan and organise lessons to meet the needs of all learners and incorporate active learning and assessment for learning strategies in every lesson. They ensure that the students are fully involved in lessons, act on high quality feedback, contribute and behave appropriately. The school respects teachers who accept that they are wholly responsible for the progress of students in their classes. They evaluate their own professional development and actively engage in professional development opportunities. Special Educational Needs Determination Coordinator SEND COORDINATOR (SENDCO) is responsible for the day to day operation of the school’s Special Educational Needs Determination (SEND) policy. He/She co-ordinates additional support for students with SEN and liaises with the parents, teachers and other professionals who are involved with them. The SENDCO creates Individual Education Plans for children when appropriate and facilitates high quality training for staff on Inclusion issues. The SENDCO along with his/her team also monitors the quality provision for SEND and G&T across the school and supports staff to identify needs based on sound evidence. Parents Parents are responsible for suppor�ng the school and their child through each stage of their child’s educa�on. They ensure that their child has the best atendance record possible, do their best to keep their child healthy and fit to atend school and inform the school if there are maters outside of school that are likely to affect a child’s performance or behaviour. Parents must ensure that their child is equipped for school with the correct uniform and equipment and support the school to promote a posi�ve a�tude towards learning, skill development and independence. Parents will be asked to cooperate with the school if their child needs to be corrected for their behaviour, a�tude to learning or interac�on with teachers and fellow students. The school seeks to maintain proac�ve, construc�ve, dialogue with parents always. Students Students are responsible for engaging fully in every learning opportunity, producing work to the best of their ability and contribu�ng effec�vely to lessons and the life of the school. They should be fully prepared for all lessons and take responsibility for their own learning and choices. POLICY REVIEW The school teaching and learning policy will be reviewed annually to take account of new ini�a�ves, changes in the curriculum, developments in technology or changes to the physical environment of the school. INGREDIENTS FOR GOOD AND OUTSTANDING LESSONS Learning Effec�ve learning takes place when students know: • How to make progress • What they are achieving • How to learn, including thinking and questioning skills, using methods and resources • The attitudes needed in the classroom, including respect, interest, responsibility, responding to challenge • How to work collaboratively • The skills they need to develop, including enquiry, research, analysis, reflection Teaching Good teaching requires: • Clear planning • Assessment for learning
