ASSESSMENTS Effecve assessment leads to more focused teaching by providing the evidence for closer matching of tasks to the child’s needs. We use these strategies to link assessment to beter teaching and learning: • ongoing formave assessment in lessons • evaluaon of daily lesson plans to inform future planning • use of data from formal assessment tasks to get to know the achievement of students to inform planning and the grouping of children • assessment tasks at the end of units of work to monitor progress and idenfy any underachievement • student progress check to assist children by providing them with an indicaon of what stage they have reached and what they need to do to improve further MONITORING AND REVIEW Monitoring Teaching and Learning is a key priority. Classroom observaons, learning walks and work sampling are used to monitor and evaluate the effecveness and quality of teaching and learning. They also form an important part of the process of reviewing the performance of the school through whole school self- evaluaon. Classroom observaon is used to support connued professional development, departmental and professional review in the school. It is a strong mentoring tool and should focus on providing a pathway towards exemplary teaching. Classroom observaon should be viewed pro- acvely as a construcve coaching strategy. Intervenon support will be offered to teachers who require to conform to the standards of the school. Paired or individual observaons are done by the SLT twice in an academic year and a whole school teaching learning audit report is generated. This report indicates the areas of focus for the next term and gives us ample data for focussed coaching, need b ased CPDs and embedding best pracces.
