HOMEWORK POLICY PURPOSE:

The aim of the school’s homework policy is to promote learning beyond the school day as an essen�al part of good educa�on. Homework and private study may also s�mulate crea�vity, cri�cal thinking, and an awareness that learning can take place outside of the classroom. Homework not only reinforces classroom learning and s�mulates thought outside of school, it also helps students to develop the skills, self -discipline and passions that they will need for successful lifelong learning. SCOPE: Homework should support the development of independent learning skills, including the habits of enquiry and inves�ga�on, and it should help to foster the role of parents as co -educators of their children. RESPONSIBILITIES: The Subject Leader will ensure that homework is:  An integral part of the curriculum and is planned and prepared alongside all other programmes of learning.  Challenging as appropriate to the age, ability and circumstances of the students  Designed to comply with the IEP of student’s special educa�onal needs.  The amount of homework complies with the Key Stage recommenda�ons. Teachers will ensure that:  Homework is set and marked in line with the curriculum and in a �mely manner  Tasks are differen�ated and well structured.  Students understand the purpose of the homework tasks  It is clear to students how their homework consolidates and extends the work they are doing in school. Students will ensure that:  They record the homework tasks [in homework diaries or planners] correctly.  They understand the requirements of the homework task that has been sets and the date and time it is to be submitted.  Demonstrate a commitment to spending the necessary time to successfully completing the tasks set.  Homework is completed and submitted on time. Parents will ensure that:  They check what homework has been allocated daily.  Provide a quiet and suitable study location for the students to complete their homework and or study.  They encourage the students to complete the homework as per the task requirements.  Encourage the students communicate with their subject/classroom teacher if they had any issues understanding or completing the homework.
