ASSESSMENT POLICY IN EARLY YEARS FOUNDATION STAGE (EYFS) At Al Diyafah High School, we believe young children learn best through first hand experiences and so we plan for acve learning through an appropriate play based curriculum. This carefully planned curriculum is designed to enable most children to achieve the Early Learning goals by the end of the Early Years Foundaon Stage. Acvies and opportunies for play in FS are designed to provide a holisc approach to learning, rather than separang the curriculum into single unrelated subjects. A balance o f teacher led and child iniated acvies are planned for, which are designed to systemacally help children to move forward in their learning. However, the staff operate flexibly and adapt teaching strategies to meet the needs of parcular children. Observaon and assessment of small groups and individuals provide the starng points for our subsequent planning. It is expected that most children achieve the Early Learning Goals by the end of FS2, with the help and guidance from the Development Maters secon within the EYFS documentaon which idenfy clear, progressive steps along the learning pathway. The introducon of the Class Development mater grid ,the Early Years Foundaon Stage Record and Tapestry has placed a lot of emphasis on observaon of children’s achievement and development. The record is filled in on weekly basis. The observaons by teacher is carried to help provide informaon for future planning and development. At the end of each term, teachers assess their students against the Early Learning Goals, stang whether they are Emerging, Expecng or Exceeding in the levels of atainment. Stascs at the end of FS2 are collated and forwarded to the Year 1 teacher. DIFFERENTIATION
