SCHOOL POLICY MANUAL-2024-2025
2. First Aid Kits Having a well-stocked first aid kit on board a school bus can significantly improve the outcome of potential injuries or medical emergencies. First aid kits should contain essential items such as band aids, gauze pads, adhesive tape, scissors, tweezers, and a variety of other medical supplies. Bus drivers and staff should be trained in basic first aid procedures, and the kit should be routinely checked to ensure all items are up-to-date and in working order. Glass Breaker Glass Breakers are another vital piece of safety equipment on school buses. In the event of a crash or emergency, where the doors and exits are not safe passengers might need to break the emergency window glass. Glass breakers allow drivers and passengers to quickly and safely break the glass in order to facilitate a faster evacuation. These tools should be easily accessible and located in multiple locations throughout the bus to ensure that they can be reached quickly when needed. 3. 1) Front door evacuation. Front Door evacuation means evacuation of the passengers through the front door of the bus. In this case the bus attendant must direct and help all the passengers to exit the bus through the front exit. Rear exit evacuation. Rear Exit evacuation means evacuation of the passengers though the rear exit. In this case the bus attendant must direct and guide the passengers to exit the bus through the rear exit. Emergency window evacuation. Emergency window evacuation happens in case of an emergency when the emergency window is broken in order to exit the bus as soon as possible. In this case the bus drivers and the attendant must help the passengers to exit through the emergency windows of the bus by breaking through it. Evacuation when the bus is filled with smoke. In case of an evacuation when the bus is filled with smoke the bus attendant must take help of the floor lines and use the nearest exit to evacuate all the passengers. 5) Evacuation involving a sleeping child. In case of an evacuation when a child is sleeping the bus attendant must gently carry the child if possible or wake up the child normally so that the child does not panic and help him/her to exit the bus through the nearest exit. 6) Evacuation of special needs students (and students with medical conditions). In case of an evacuation involving a child with special needs the bus attendant will help the child along with the driver with all possible means in order to evacuate the child from the bus. Documentation & Records After an incident has taken place on the bus the driver or the bus attendant must communicate the same to the Transport Manager. Further, the transport manager along with his team will review the incident and document the same for future records. 2) 3) 4) 10. 9. Types of Evacuations
