TEACHING AND LEARNING POLICY PURPOSE:
The Al Diyafah community has as its mission the commitment to nurture caring, confident and competent 21 st century learners in an inclusive learning environment. This is achieved through the broad and balanced curriculum which enables teachers to provide learning opportuni�es to fulfil the mission. This document clearly sets out the expecta�ons of high -quality teaching and learning at Al Diyafah High School and promotes consistency and high standards across the school. SCOPE: To: • Provide teachers at Al Diyafah High School with an ideal model upon which lessons are planned in order to maximise learning • Provide parameters for excellent teaching and learning prac�ce and a baseline for monitoring and evalua�ng the teaching and learning that takes place. • To ensure implementa�on of TLP (Teaching Learning Prac�ce/Policy) in the classrooms to provide a uniform and superior learning experience for all students to maximize each student’s poten�al, crea�vity and individuality. • To adopt a pedagogy of inclusion which enables all students to succeed • Raise atainment by increasing levels of student mo�va�on, par�cipa�on, and independence • Promote an understanding of how learning takes place • Provide constant feedback, review and development of current and future teaching and learning prac�ce, which enables staff and students to remain s�mulated and focused. RESPONSIBILITIES: Every teacher needs to ensure the following so that children learn effec�vely: • good working knowledge of the subject/course and the curriculum documents • lessons are set in the context of a well-planned scheme of work • thorough prepara�on of lessons in the required planning format • shared learning objec�ves which are understood by the students and parents • clear success criteria for what children are expected to achieve • carefully structured ac�vity matched sensi�vely to student needs i.e., IEP’s • high levels of student involvement in ac�vi�es • appropriate pace to lessons where children’s previous learning and interests are built upon • purposeful applica�on of knowledge to different situa�ons • an atmosphere where children are prepared to take risks • open ended, thought provoking, challenging ques�ons are asked, and interac�on is encouraged • �me and resources are well managed • support for the learning of children with differing abili�es
