SECTION 3 ACADEMIC POLICIES
ASSESSMENT POLICY PURPOSE: Assessment for teaching and learning is vital for the accurate measurement of student atainment and the accurate tracking and predic�on of student progress toward targeted achievement. SCOPE: This policy aims to give appropriate guidance to teachers and subject leaders about the purpose of assessment, types of assessment and how assessment should be u�lized in lessons and end -of-unit assessments, developing peer assessment and monitoring the students’ performance. RESPONSIBILITIES: • To check the understanding and learning that has taken place; to check the effec�veness of teaching methods and further instruc�on. • To inform the level of atainment to set higher challenging work and targets • To track the attainments and progress of individual students and student groups over time. • To inform students about their attainment and progress and help set targets for progress. • To provide parents with accurate information about their child’s attainment and progress (reporting). • To compare the progress made by different groups of students and to ensure that no group is disadvantaged. • To use assessment information to make progressive amendments to planning, training and allocating resources. • To ensure that all teachers know what is expected of students’ learning viz-à-viz the National Curriculum framework via assessment rubrics and standards • To help teachers differentiate learning and assessment tools to support pupil needs with regards to learning difficulties (SEN AEN, etc.) TYPES OF ASSESSMENT Assessment can be : • Formative – ongoing for teacher and pupil information and to indicate the effectiveness of teaching and learning. • Summative – for recording and reporting purposes, to indicate strengths and weaknesses and to aspire to international benchmarks. Forma�ve is Assessment FOR Learning (AFL). It provides evidence of and for progression in learning. It supports learning through iden�fying difficul�es, providing feedback and diagnosing future learning priori�es.

• Short Recall Test • Practical Project • Research Self-Assessment encourages students to take responsibility for their own learning by: • Evaluating their own achievement against shared learning outcomes.
