HEALTH AND SAFETY POLICY PURPOSE:
Every individual on the school premises must be safe and secure. ADHS management considers the health, safety and welfare of staff, students, parents, contractors and visitors to be of paramount importance, and that a safe and healthy working environment is a prerequisite to achieving the school’s stated goal to promote excellence in teaching and learning. SCOPE: 1. Implement practices to ensure the health and safety of all staff, students and visitors at ADHS 2. Ensure understanding and awareness of roles and responsibilities by all members of the school community through effective communication and consultation 3. Ensure all procedures and protocols reflects the expectations of KHDA and other regulatory authorities in Dubai 4. Provide regular training in all aspects of health and safety HEALTH AND SAFETY ARRANGEMENTS: 1. Minimum three fire drills per year are scheduled to reinforce the staff and students about assembly points and escape routes that would be used in case of an emergency. 2. School gates open for the students at 6:30 am and close at 2:30 pm with the exception of those staying back for particular reasons approved by the management. Parents are instructed to drop the children not earlier than 6:45 am and pick them up not later than 2:30 pm after which the safety of the students will be the responsibility of the parents. 3. Bus attendance is tallied with the class attendance. Monitoring by both the transport department and the administrators have helped in raising the safety standards of the school 4. The school medical team – a doctor and 3 nurses – besides being accountable for administering first aid as per DHA guidelines, also provide their expertise in regular monitoring of students’ vital statistics, fitness programme conducted for students who are found to be overweight. 5. To encourage adoption of a healthy lifestyle, the school canteen menu provides a choice of healthy and tasty food. Steps are taken to ensure that the canteen serves healthy food. 6. Awareness on health is created through health talks by the doctor, assemblies, fitness programmes, fliers etc. 7. To avoid transmission of infections, parents must refrain from sending students to school when they are suffering from any infectious diseases/ fever etc. and inform the school. 8. Teachers on break duty ensure that there is adequate playground supervision during break-time. 9. The corridors, staircases, school ground and play areas are monitored by closed circuit cameras. 10. Students are expected to wear their ID card on them at all times in school and on the school transport. Prescribed colour chords (blue/red) help to quickly identify students who use the school /own transport to and from school. 11. Students who walk home from school have a signed permission note (parent and HOP/HOS) which will need to be produced on request. 12. Children can only be picked up from the school by parents or persons authorised by the parents wearing their id.
