SCHOOL POLICY MANUAL-2024-2025

INTERVENTION MARKING – NEXT STEPS MARKING POLICY PURPOSE:

This policy reflects the school’s values and philosophy in relaon to giving children feedback about and marking their writen work. The policy is a working document, which generates and informs good pracce within our school. It is also a means of promong learning. Throughout the school, pracce is consistent and in line with the overall policy on Assessment, Recording and Reporng. SCOPE: This policy is for all teaching staff, supply teachers and teaching assistants who are involved in marking and feedback of any kind. It is also to inform parents of assessment for learning pracces, how children are involved in their own learning and how writen work is marked. The characteriscs of assessment for learning: • It is embedded in a view of teaching and learning of which it is an essenal part. • It involves sharing learning goals with students. • It aims to help students to know and to recognise the standards they are aiming for. • It involves students in self-assessment. • It provides feedback which leads to students recognising their next steps and how to take them. • It is underpinned by confidence that every student can improve. • It involves both teachers and students reviewing and reflecng on assessment data. AIMS: “All teachers have consistently high expectaons of all students. Drawing on excellent subject knowledge, teachers plan astutely and set challenging tasks based of systemac, accurate assessment of students’ prior skills, knowledge and understanding. They use well- judged and oen imaginave teaching strategies that, together with sharply focused and mely support and intervenon, match individual needs accurately. Consequently, students learn exceponally well across the curriculum. Teachers systemacally and effecvely check students’ understanding throughout lessons, ancipang where they may need to intervene and doing so with notable impact on the quality of learning.” OfSTED, January 2012 This is in order to: • Raise standards of student’s atainment and progress • Ensure whole school consistency of feedback and marking, by all who are involved in giving feedback and marking e.g. teachers, teaching assistants, parent helpers, students etc. • Ensure that feedback is effecve, and that work is quality marked • Assess where the pupil is and to move him/her on to the next step in learning. • Acvely involve the children in their learning e.g. by use of Talk Partners, designing success criteria etc. • Give children the skills to evaluate their own work • Raise pupil self-esteem and celebrate success. • Ensure a manageable system enabling focus on groups • Inform parents
